At first sight, František Soukenický does not look like a womanizer, but his infidelity causes him to lose his private psychiatric practice, and ultimately his wife, Eliška. His wife falls in love with one of his former patients, divorce lawyer Viktor, and throws her philandering husband out. František has no choice but to move in with his eccentric mother and to start work as an instructor in his elder brother Miloš' driving school. During the divorce proceedings it turns out that Eliška is pregnant. Because she does not want to say whose the child is, František refuses to sign the divorce papers.
