The first lady of Czech film was 80 on 2 February this year, and is working on a new film. Originally an architecture student, then a technical draughtswoman, laboratory assistant, model, extra, script girl, director's assistant, student at FAMU under Otakar Vávra and finally a director who this year celebrated fifty years of an active film career. Always enterprising and almost unbearably provocative, but also uncompromising in her artistic and civic demands and in pushing for her right to her own opinion. Also a mother, grandmother and a still much-courted woman.
