Nineteen-year-old Štěpán Šafránek is a romantically-inclined student in the last year of grammar school in a small district town. He writes amorous little poems to a girl nicknamed Blueberry with whom he went to elementary school, but his feelings are not returned. Štěpán's best friend, Kendy, is more earth-bound and dreams of becoming a film director. At the suggestion of the headmistress, the two boys throw themselves into rehearsals for an irreverent amateur theatre production of J.K.Tyl's play The Forest Maiden, or Journey to America. The enthusiastic students change this classic work of Czech theatre beyond recognition.
