Year THREE – 1970 /May 21 – 27/
The third year was opened in May 21, 1970. Many things have changed meanwhile. New FINALE with „new“ people took place on the 25th anniversary of liberation of the Republic from Fascism and on the 100th anniversary of V. I. Lenin’s birth.
Films: Medená veža /M. Hollý/, Po stopách krve /P. Schulhoff/, Deň náš každodenný /O. Krivánek/, Světáci /Z. Podskalský/, Ecce homo Homolka /J. Papoušek/, 322 /D. Hanák/
The jury headed by dr. Stanislav Zvoníček chose only 6 films for the competition. They agreed on the fact that „a substantial part of feature production of the last year has serious shortcomings; both at the intellectual focus and the aesthetical level or at the genre composition. “
None of the mentioned films won, because „although the films have a good professional level and audience attractiveness, but none of the chosen films corresponds with the statute, where the decisive criterion is the social involvement in the widest and most humane meaning of the word together with a craftsmanship and searching of new qualities and possibilities of the film language“.
During the third year of Finále in 1970 the Pilsner cinema Elektra carried a peculiar name Moskva. In order to get the normalisation cinematography under a regular control, the Pilsner festival was to be replaced by a „travelling“ festival of Czech and Slovak films. It was factually shown in the statute from 1973 in what way Finále was „tributary to the period“ and that it is not possible to follow in the old way under the „new“ conditions. Words „social involvement in the widest and most humane meaning of the word“ from the Pilsner version were replaced by a factual „socialist“ involvement. Thus Pilsen lost its Finále. It could be renewed only after 20 years...
