The selection commission /which served as a jury at the same time/ was supposed to choose twelve films that will participate at the festival out of 800 films, which were shot since 1969. They agreed on seven titles from 1969. Remaining five represented the whole period of twenty years.

From jury’s statement: „… and taking into account the balance of presented films, which does not allow an objectively evincible possibility of picking up a superiority of one artistic individuality or work, decided unanimously to award this year a great cash prize of 120.000,- CZK together with the winning symbol of “Kingfisher” (ceramic design) entirely to the whole presented collection of works and that is for the merit of maintaining a development continuity of the Czechoslovakian film production and its socially-moral and aesthetic values in hard times of political and cultural “normalisation.“

Finale never had such a financial support before. Finale never had such a moral support before. Finale never had so many important guests before. Finale never had... such a low audience attendance. Only the screening of The Ear was sold out, and that was thanks to a personal visit of the president Václav Havel.
